Frequently Asked Questions
Auctions
Yes — you'll need to create a free account on our website using your email address before placing any bids. This helps ensure our auctions remain serious and fair for all participants.
No. All bids are completely anonymous, so other participants cannot see who has placed a bid.
Once you have an account, you can either place a manual bid or use our automatic bidding feature. With automatic bidding, you set the maximum amount you're willing to pay, and the system will bid on your behalf up to that limit — so you never have to watch the auction in real time.
Yes, there is a minimum increment required per bid. You cannot raise by less than this amount.
Absolutely. You will receive an email notification if you are outbid, so you can decide whether to bid again. You will also receive a confirmation email if you win.
Payment is expected within 24 hours of the auction closing. If payment is not received within this window, the horse will be offered to the next highest bidder instead.
A pre-buy allows you to purchase the horse immediately, before the auction ends. The pre-buy price is set at double the starting bid. To arrange a pre-buy, please contact us at artemishobbyhorses.com. This is sometimes available.
Commissions
Applications and pricing
No — the application form is simply a way for us to learn about your project and provide a price estimate. It is not binding for either party. A commission slot is only confirmed once we have agreed on a price together.
Each hobby horse is a unique, handcrafted artwork, and pricing is determined individually based on your horse's design. The base commission price depends on the complexity and size of your horse. Additional costs may apply for unique breed shapes, advanced customisations, special materials, or exclusive model protection. The more detail and reference material you provide in your application, the more accurate your estimate will be.
Examples include custom or unusual breed shapes, mythical or fantasy designs, highly detailed custom work, special materials, or base protection. These are quoted individually and discussed during our video call, if you wish to have one.
Confirming a Commission
A 30% deposit is required to confirm your slot. Once paid, your commission is locked in and production can be scheduled.
No. The deposit is non-refundable. If you change your mind after confirming, the deposit will not be returned and the commission cannot be cancelled.
Yes — all confirmed commissions include an optional 15-minute video call. This is an opportunity to walk through your vision, clarify details, and make sure we are fully aligned before work begins.
Parental or guardian consent is required for anyone under 18 years old.
Design & References
For best results, please include photos of your horse from the right side, left side, and front. Additional angles are always welcome. The more detail you provide — including facial markings, proportions, and coat patterns — the more accurately your horse can be recreated.
Yes. If certain details differ from your references, or if you have specific wishes regarding fur length, mane style, or other features, please describe them in the form. Any details not specified will be based solely on the reference images.
We will recreate your horse as faithfully as possible, but please be aware that each hobby horse is handcrafted artwork. Small natural variations are part of the process, and the final result cannot be considered defective due to artistic or aesthetic differences. This is why clear, detailed references and the video call are so important.
Yes, and this is included in the standard price. Simply provide a photo or detailed description of your horse's eye colour and we will recreate it as accurately as possible. Eyelashes will be matched to your reference.
The mane is made from Angora goat fiber, giving it a soft, realistic appearance. It will be dyed to match your reference as closely as possible. No goats where harmed in the process of creating the mane.
You may choose your preferred wood type. All sticks are left untreated to preserve a natural feel.
Yes, the stick is removable. However, please contact us before attempting to remove it so we can guide you through the process safely.
